Appearance
The Mini Bernedoodle is as fluffy and as cuddly as any perfect teddy bear. Given that these dogs are a mix between a small Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog, they come with a lot of their gorgeous features. Some of their best features include beautiful, almond-shaped eyes, adorable drop ears, and a fluffy, thick, and soft coat.
The Mini Bernedoodle size is petite, although it can vary quite a bit between pups. The adult Bernedoodle weight is between 20 and 50 pounds and their height can range from 12 to 22 inches. Depending on the generation they belong to – F1, F1b, or F2, Mini Bernedoodles can be smaller or medium-sized.
The Mini Bernedoodle can also inherit the coat types of their parents (curly or straight), though they generally have a combination of both. Adult Mini Bernedoodle dogs have a wavy-textured coat with the patterns and markings of their Bernese Mountain Dog parent. Mini Bernedoodle colors are white, black, and brown combinations, generally on a white background. Merle Mini Bernedoodle is also a possibility, although rare.

Temperament
Mini Bernedoodles are well-balanced and well-behaved dogs both in puppyhood and adulthood. Although they may be a bit more energetic and enthusiastic as young puppies, they generally grow up to be calm and laid-back adults.
Since their debut, Mini Bernedoodles have proven to be one of the best dog breeds for children. They are not only easygoing, but they also lack destructive or dangerous behavior. Most Mini Bernedoodles also get along well with other dogs and pets, although they do require a bit of socialization training during puppyhood to avoid them being shy or reserved around strangers.
When it comes to qualities, Mini Bernedoodles have an endless supply to show off with. They are sociable, outgoing, eager to make friends, cuddly, attentive, joyful, and the list goes on for quite a while.
As an adaptable breed, the Mini Bernedoodle fits well in any type of lifestyle. These dogs can be more adventurous or more laid-back depending on their owners. They enjoy relaxing on a lap as much as they love to zoom across an open field.
Care
Mini Bernedoodle Grooming
Mini Bernedoodle grooming involves very little effort as these dogs are a low-shedding breed with few needs. Like all dog breeds, Mini Bernedoodles should be bathed once every month or bi-monthly, have their coats brushed regularly and their nails clipped as needed. Generally, Mini Bernedoodles need to be brushed once or twice every week to keep their coats tangle-free, but you can opt to brush them more often if required. Brushing your dog’s teeth is one of the most important tasks in grooming. Dogs can suffer from paradental issues if their dental care is not kept up with.
Ideally, you should brush your Mini Bernedoodle’s teeth every day if possible, if not, at least once every few days using dog-friendly toothpaste. Clipping your dog’s nails is also an important task in grooming, given that overgrown nails can cause discomfort and even infection. The best moment to clip your dog’s nails is after a bath when they are soaked and softer. Your Mini Bernedoodle’s ears should also be cleaned regularly.
Mini Bernedoodle Exercise Needs
The Mini Bernedoodle’s exercise needs depend mostly on its energy levels. Like all dog breeds, some pups can come with a bit more spunk and energy to spend, while others may be more naturally relaxed. Mini Bernedoodles are considered laid-back dogs with low energy levels. They enjoy activities like running and chasing but are more fond of relaxing on a couch or on the grass next to their favorite humans. Ideally, you should walk your Mini Bernedoodle once or twice every day for an average of 30 minutes and provide some daily entertainment indoors with games.
Mini Bernedoodle Health
As a result of crossbreeding two purebred dogs, the Mini Bernedoodle’s health is significantly better than that of its parents. Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles may be prone to allergies, elbow dysplasia, hip dysplasia, and vision and dental problems, all of which are conditions that Mini Bernedoodle pups are unlikely to inherit. Mini Bernedoodles are big fans of food, and one thing to keep an eye on is their portions. They may become overweight if they are allowed to indulge in all their food cravings.
Mini Bernedoodle Lifespan
As a small dog breed, the Mini Bernedoodle has an average lifespan of 12 to 18 years, with most living up to the latter with flying colors. Because of their crossbreed status and considering the good health records of their parents, these dogs have a life expectancy of over 16 years. Proper care, regular vet checks, and a balanced environment will ensure that your puppy lives long and healthy years.
Mini Bernedoodle Training
Mini Bernedoodle puppies are as smart as their parents and given that the Poodle is one of the smartest dog breeds around, you can expect great things from your petite Bernedoodle fur baby. Training puppies young is important for their development and well-being. It helps them grow into well-behaved, friendly, and sociable adults. Puppies learn best when they are young, so it is important to start training as soon as your Mini Bernedoodle puppy comes home.
The first lessons you teach your small puppy should include potty training, crate training, and basic commands like come, sit, lay, and wait. Like all puppies, the cute Mini Bernedoodle pups respond best to lessons that include plenty of motivation in the form of rewards, praise, and fun activities. They are naturally eager to please and will want to impress by any means. They can get bored and show signs of stubbornness if their trainer doesn’t provide them with their desired rewards. A gentle approach also gets the best results when training Mini Bernedoodle puppies.
Socializing your Mini Bernedoodle puppy should be done in a quiet area where distractions are minimized. Your puppy should be introduced to friends and family, even neighboring pets, for short periods of time.
Another lesson Mini Bernedoodle puppies should learn as part of their training is how to be ok with some alone time during the day. Since most owners go to work during the day, puppies are often left alone for extended periods of time, and while some dog breeds might be independent and eager for some alone time, Mini Bernedoodles are not. As dogs that crave to be near their humans as much as possible, they need training to avoid separation anxiety. You can provide an interactive dog toy and proceed to leave your puppy’s sight to start with, and move on to leaving the room, or the house, for a few minutes at a time. Once your puppy is ready to be without you for minutes, you can increase the time frame.
History
Bernedoodles and Mini Bernedoodles are crossbreed mixes of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle or a Mini Poodle in the Mini Bernedoodle mix. The term "Mini" was added in order to distinguish the petite Bernedoodle from the standard size Bernedoodle.
The Mini Bernedoodle was first bred in 2003 in Ontario Canada by crossing two purebred dogs that were not only popular for their desirable personality traits but also for their coat qualities and beautiful appearance. These cute dogs are a mix of two intelligent, gentle, and sweet breeds. They inherit characteristics, physical features, and qualities from both of their parents.
The Poodle breed, which is one of the world’s oldest dog breeds, has a fantastic reputation for being great at therapy jobs, sporting competitions, and the show rings. Poodles are also classed as the second most intelligent dogs out of all breeds.
The Bernese Mountain dog also comes with an impressive set of qualities to pass down to the Mini Bernedoodle mix. Bernese Mountain Dogs are docile, laid-back, and completely friendly. Their sweet disposition combined with their gorgeous tricolor coats are their most desirable qualities that are inherited by the Mini Bernedoodle.
The Mini Bernedoodle puppies were bred to be small companion pets that would fit perfectly in an apartment setting. They were also bred to be hypoallergenic and to have a non-shedding coat. Mini Bernedoodles are often an excellent choice for people with dog allergies because of their poodle lineage which has little to no shedding and good hypoallergenic qualities.
