Lapse of Potty Training Concentration

Q: Hi Dr Pup, My 4.5 month old Pom, Ted has been doing really well with the potty training, except for the last 2 days he has peed on the floor a couple of times instead of the pads. What is up with that?

A: There are a few possibilities. Changes in his other routines or in yours can lead to confusion on his part, temporary forgetfulness on his part or possibly a urinary tract infection. If it happens again you should reinforce the same training techniques that taught him to begin with and check with your vet about a urinalysis to rule out infection. Also if he is not yet neutered you can see some accidents as he approaches puberty.
