Presurgical Blood Screen Values

August 1, 2015, 7:47 AM
Q: I just had my Pomeranian neutered. The ran the initial blood work. It came back with his ALT at 85 U/L. They said that was slightly high and gave him Denosyl. I am worried about this. Any suggestions?
A: Although an ALT of 85 is technically above normal it is slight elevation. I would have probably just suggested a repeat in a month if he otherwise seems normal. Denosyl is a general enhancer of the livers ability to recover and it never really hurts so go ahead with it. I would not be alarmed just plan for a recheck.
