- A: The most common cause of itching in puppies is dryness. The best way to handle this is to avoid frequent bathing if possible and to use a mild shampoo like aloe and oatmeal plus a leave on conditioner. Using a fatty acid supplement is a great long term plan. If you see redness, rash or scabs be sure to let me know.
