Common Conditions

Dry Nose

December 31, 2017, 4:38 PM
Q: My 8 week old puppy has a dry nose, does this mean she's dehydrated or sick? She drinks water, but I feel like she doesn't drink enough. What could I do to make her drink more?
A: The moisture for a dogs nose comes primarily from tear drainage and also from them licking their nose. That moisture evaporates constantly so if your puppy is in a low humidity environment their nose will appear drier. If your puppy’s eyes look shiny and she eats well and feels good it is likely environmental. I puppy with a fever will often have a dry nose, take a look at the home demo “Taking Your Puppy’s temperature”
