Common Conditions

Licking paw

November 18, 2021, 4:18 PM
Q: Our 10 month old puppy is constantly licking her paw (mostly just one paw). She does at all times of day/night, though it seems to be worse when she is in her crate when we are out of the house. She has licked/gnawed to the point that her fur on that paw is very short. There does not appear to be any wounds and she walks/runs/plays without any sign of pain or discomfort. What could the issue be?
A: Sometimes separating an actual medical problem from a distractive habit is difficult.  Has she been examined by your vet for that problem.  You can send me a short 5-10sec video of he doing it and it may help me guide you on what to do.
