How to treat "hot spot"

January 6, 2015, 9:15 PM
Q: My puppy has a hot spot on her paw. What can I do to make it better. It must bother her because she pulls away everytime I grab her paw.
A: If your diagnosis as a "hot spot" is correct the most important step is to trim the hair from around the spot so that you can see a border of normal skin all the way around. Then using an antiseptic like Neosporin or even a drying agent like desitin to reduce bacterial growth is many times all that is needed.
