Common Conditions

constipated

Q: My 2 month old yorkie seems to be constipated. He had a normal stool about 4 hours ago but seems to have trouble passing this current one. He has been trying for about an hour now. He has been scooting around on the floor. I can see that it is trying to come out but he is unable to pass it.
A: Sometimes if the problem stool is at the anus as you describe gentle massage with a small amount of lubricant like Vaseline can resolve the problem. If there is additional stool above what you see it may be necessary to use an enema. I can help you with doing that or if you are not comfortable with that you should notify your vet.
