Smooth transition

Q: I ordered the Puppy Poo Palace which arrives on Wednesday, however, my new pup (9 week old Morkie) arrives tomorrow. What do you recommend for that transition time for sleeping and potty training until my Palace arrives? We are brand new dog owners and are very nervous for those first few days. We just want to make it a smooth transition for our new puppy.

A: It is best to begin by having your puppy used to a confined space for sleeping. Since you will have 3 or 4 nights following her arrival you might consider using a small travel carrier until the Palace arrives. The other principals of her training should still begin as soon as she arrives. This includes using a pad in the carrier and putting her to bed and not going back until she has been quiet for at least 30 minutes.
