Pad training tips

June 7, 2017, 9:47 AM
Q: We just adopted our 9 week old Cava Poo. We want him to be trained on his pee pad in his Pup Pee Poo Palace. He refuses to poop or pee in the palace, no matter how long we leave him there or return him to the palace when we catch him in the act. We have taken him outside to pee/poop as a result. I suspect we have created more of a problem or confusion for him. We have only had him 4 days. What advice might you offer?
A: He does not know that the pad is an OK place to eliminate, you have to teach him that it is expected. To accomplish this he must stay in the palace until he eliminates. This is the only way for you to use positive reinforcement. The length of time that he has to stay in the Palace to eliminate will steadily decrease once you are able to use positive reinforcemnent. Indoor pad training is difficult and requires patience and consitatccy to be successful.
