Respiratory Infection Not Going Away...

July 11, 2013, 11:39 PM
Q: My dog a French Bulldog Male approximatly 9 weeks old has been on antibiotics for over a week and a half now due to what the vet referred to as respiratory infection. She gave us antibiotics (VIBRAMYCIN) which were given twice a day as she instructed after 5 or 6 the medicine was finished and he still wasn't better, as if he got worse. He had green and white nasal discharge from his nose, luckily his energy & appetite were still and are still good... But these last couple of days he's developed a bad gagging/ coughing sound, which he at times throws up a clear kind of cloudy liquid. He is still on VIBRAMYCIN and I think that helped with the nasal discharge. Just wondering how worried I should be about the gagging?
A: The most important thing is that his attitude and appetite are good. You should continue giving the Vibramycin and you might want to consider adding an expectorant to help him relieve congestion and debris, ask your pharmacist to direct you to guaifenesin syrup which would be given at 0.1cc per pound twice daily. It can take a couple of weeks before all synptoms resolve.
